About Spicewood Development

An Award-Winning, Local Community Builder

Spicewood Communities is an award-winning, family-owned local community builder that has been shaping the future of boutique low maintenance living in Central Texas for over 20 years. We started out creating infill communities in and around Austin that offered a for-sale alternative to urban professionals who needed a low maintenance home close to where they worked, shopped and played. More recently, in addition to these urban infill communities, Spicewood also recognized a growing desire among the rapidly expanding baby boomer population for a similar low maintenance living environment – but with some important modifications. Accordingly, we turned our focus towards this emerging demographic by providing communities with exclusively single story and master down floor plans, set in the same first-class convenient locations.

Our Past Work

Our last two completed communities, the Gardens at Teravista and the Bluffs at Balcones, and our current community, the Gardens at Verde Vista, were meticulously designed and implemented with the Baby Boomer in mind. Though distinctly different in application – the Gardens with free-standing garden homes and villas featuring Spicewood Communities’ signature private outdoor courtyard entries and the Bluffs with urban three story townhomes including the option for private internal elevators – each community has been very well received by “boomers” looking for the freedom of lock-and-leave convenience and a perfectly sized home that comfortably fits their new lifestyle. Through this dedication to continuous improvement, innovation, and adaptability, Spicewood Communities has created some of the most successful maintained communities in Central Texas and strives every day to stay on the cutting edge of providing high quality homes and community for active lifestyles, whether you’re 25 or 65.

Ryan took the passion he found for construction management, and his love of the environment, and created a company specializing in building alternative housing. However, he ultimately decided he wanted to supervise bigger projects, which led him to his most recent position as a construction manager for a homebuilder in North Austin. Ryan’s drive to push the standard has made him a great addition to the Spicewood Communities team.
